8 Lemosho Route

Your journey begins with a drive to the Londorossi Gate, the starting point of the Lemosho Route. The trek starts in the Afromontane Rainforest, the first of Kilimanjaro's ecological zones. After meeting your trekking crew, embark on a leisurely hike, keeping an eye out for wildlife. Lunch is enjoyed on the trail, with the day ending at Forest Camp in the mid-afternoon.

Begin your ascent through the forested slopes into a unique landscape of juniper and podocarpus trees, eventually reaching the heather-covered Shira Plateau. The plateau, once Kilimanjaro’s third volcanic peak, offers stunning views of Kibo. Camp is reached mid-afternoon.

Cross the iconic Shira Plateau, one of the world's highest plateaus, as you hike through scenic moorlands. After lunch, ascend to Moir Hut, arriving in the mid-afternoon. Optional acclimatization hikes in the Lent Hills provide additional opportunities for exploration.

Traverse the upper slopes of Kibo, with lunch near the Lava Tower, a towering volcanic rock formation. For those with extra energy, an optional climb of the Lava Tower offers an excellent challenge. Descend to the lush Barranco Valley, a highlight of the trek with its striking “Garden of the Senecios.” Overnight at Barranco Camp.

Start the day by scaling the impressive Barranco Wall, requiring the use of both hands and feet. Continue through a series of ascents and descents to reach Karanga Camp, a vital acclimatization stop. Enjoy mesmerizing sunset views over the southern glacial valleys.

Begin your summit attempt just before midnight, navigating through the cold and wind. Arrive at Stella Point by dawn and continue to Uhuru Peak, Kilimanjaro’s highest point. Celebrate your achievement before descending to Mweka Camp, passing through stunning rainforest scenery along the way.
